What is rhinoplasty?

Sometimes there are changes that require a little more help than you can do on your own. If you’ve been considering rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as “nose job”, you’ve probably heard that it is a surgical procedure designed to modify or adjust your nose. We support our patients through consultations and personal recommendations meant to fit their facial aesthetic and aesthetic goals. If your profile has made you feel less than confident or less beautiful than you really are, we know we can walk you through the process. But did you know there are other reasons why our patients also choose a nose job too?

What are the reasons for rhinoplasty (nose job)?

Often times patients choose a nose job for reasons commonly unknown such as:

•Breathing correction: A deviated septum can cause chronic snoring, and this can lead to problems that can affect the productivity of your daily life and those around you.

•Trauma: Accidents happen, and sometimes unforeseen encounters in sports, car accidents or daily life can cause the need for surgery to return your profile to an improved form with reconstructive surgery.

•Sinus Problems: Sinus infections and sinusitis are problems that can be caused by a deviated septum, which can also lead to chronic snoring!

•Birth defects: Sometimes individuals are born a little different and need help from a considerate practice or doctor, like Dr. D’Souza, in order to assess current needs and make thought-out recommendations to move confidently forward.

Sometimes patients don’t want big changes to their nose and want to look like themselves after the operation. Some patients may be concerned with the width of the nose, others may be concerned with their hump, while others may simply want help with their breathing problems. Nasal obstruction may be due to large turbinates inside the nose, a deviated septum, or inflamed nasal mucosa. There are many instances where sprays may help to fix these breathing obstructions. Other times, the septum or turbinate may require a trip to the operating room to be taken care of.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

A good candidate for rhinoplasty is one who desires improvement but not perfection. Most patients feel that their nose is too large or too small or doesn’t fit in with the rest of their face. Others have difficulty breathing. Other essentials of a good candidate for the rhinoplasty are those who have:

•Thoughtful consideration

• No major health problems

• Realistic expectations

• Non-smoking

It’s important to understand that there is no single aesthetic profile or nose that is perfect or beautiful. The nose is viewed not only alone but in relation to the shape and size of the rest of your face. Your consultation will include how your nose should share the characteristics of the rest of your face and accentuate them. With that being said, we’re just here to help you!
