Elegantly reshape your nose at Iconic Plastic Surgery
What is a rhinoplasty?
The rhinoplasty aka “nose job” is a surgical procedure designed to modify or adjust your nose. Dr. D’Souza spent years dedicated to facial aesthetic surgery and rhinoplasty at the Cleveland Clinic and UCSD. At the Clinic he was able to study with some of the giants of the nose job. Dr. D’Souza specializes in both open and closed rhinoplasty techniques and tailors each approach to the patient’s facial profile. The techniques used in the rhinoplasty operation focus on providing a balanced, natural result that remains functional for breathing.
Why have a rhinoplasty?
Most patient don’t want big changes to their nose. Many want to look like themselves after the operation. Some patients may be concerned with the width of the nose, others may be concerned with their hump, while others may simply want help with their breathing problems. Nasal obstruction may be due to large turbinates inside the nose, a deviated septum, or inflamed nasal mucosa. Many times sprays may help fix these breathing obstructions. Other times the septum or turbinate may require a trip to the operating room.
What can you expect during the procedure?
The rhinoplasty is performed in the operating room. The incision is hidden in the columella between the nostrils. All incisions will be discussed in detail with you before starting the procedure. To safely provide you with the best results an anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia before the procedure. Following the inducement of anesthesia, the rhinoplasty will take place. Overall the procedure can take anywhere from 2-3 hours.
What can you expect after the procedure?
The rhinoplasty is a procedure that requires moderate recovery time. We will discuss restrictions during your post-operative visit. You will have a splint placed on top of your nose for 1 week and a splint inside each nostril for 5 days. Most people require approximately 2-4 weeks of recovery time before returning to their normal activities.
How long will the results last?
You will see some results immediately. However, the final results of the rhinoplasty may take 1 year to fully develop as swelling needs time to subside. The overall results will be long lasting.
Am I a Good Candidate?
A good candidate for the rhinoplasty is one who desires improvement but not perfection. Most patients feel that their nose is too large or too small or doesn’t fit in with the rest of their face. Others have difficulty breathing. Other essentials of a good candidate for the rhinoplasty are:
- No major health problems
- Realistic expectations
- No smoking
