Fat Grafting Face

Facial fat grafting results from Dr. Gehaan D’Souza in Carlsbad. Fat is taken from elsewhere on your body by liposuction, processed, and placed into areas of the face that have lost volume.

Faces age by deflating as well as descending. Lifting procedures reposition tissue that has dropped; fat grafting replaces volume that is simply gone — the hollows beneath the eyes, flattened cheeks, temples. That is why a number of the cases here list grafting alongside a facelift. The two address different halves of the same problem.

What to look for

These are subtler comparisons than the surgical galleries. Look at the shadows rather than the outlines — under the eyes, along the cheekbone, at the temples. A well-executed result reads as looking rested rather than filled, and the face should still be unmistakably the patient’s own.

Grafting, or filler?

They are not the same thing. Filler is injected in the office and dissolves over time. Grafted fat is your own tissue, placed under anaesthetic, and the portion that survives is permanent — though not all of it survives, and some patients need a second session. Which suits you depends on how much volume is needed and whether you want a permanent change.
