A woman’s breasts change shape and contour due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the normal aging process. Over time, the skin and tissue of the breasts lose elasticity, causing them to droop and appear deflated. Breast lift surgery can address sagging breasts and deliver results that are tailored to the patient’s unique figure. At Iconic Plastic Surgery, Dr. D’Souza utilizes meticulous breast lift techniques that focus on restoring the breasts to a more youthful aesthetic.
Candidates for Breast Lift Surgery
Patients who are in good health with realistic expectations of their results may consider breast lift surgery. The best candidates for this procedure can relate to one or more of the following breast concerns:
-Breast ptosis (sagging)
-Breasts that have lost firmness
The Breast Lift Procedure
A breast lift is an outpatient surgery that is performed at our own surgical facility. All anesthesia is administered and monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist for complete patient comfort and safety. Most breast lifts take between one and three hours, but the time frame varies from patient-to-patient. All of the details of this procedure will be decided during the initial consultation after several measurements are taken of the bust.
Depending on the severity of your condition and the desired extent of correction, you may choose between the following incision locations for your breast lift:
Donut incision: Two concentric incisions are made around each areola, through which a donut-shaped piece of tissue is removed. The areolas may be reduced using this approach. The donut method is ideal for patients with a small amount of skin laxity.
Lollipop incision: An incision is placed around each areola and continues down to the crease of the breast. The nipple-areolar complex can be repositioned and reduced using this method. The lollipop technique is designed for patients with moderate breast laxity.
Anchor or Wise-pattern incision: Like with the lollipop method, an incision is made around the areola and down the breast. A second incision is created along the inframammary fold. Those who desire smaller or properly positioned nipples can benefit from this approach. The anchor technique is best for patients with significant breast laxity and excess tissue.
Breast Lift and Augmentation
Some patients experience breast volume loss over time, as well as ptosis. A breast lift procedure can be performed with breast augmentation to add fullness to the breasts while simultaneously removing excess tissue. This combination is known to deliver beautiful results for qualifying patients.
Recovery and Results
A local anesthetic is injected into the breasts for optimal comfort along the chest wall. Dr. D’Souza is especially careful to avoid causing trauma to the breast tissue and pectoral muscles, resulting in a more manageable recovery. Some discomfort can be expected in the first few days after surgery, but over-the-counter medication can alleviate this side effect. Physical contact should be avoided until your breasts are no longer sore.
The results of breast lift surgery can be long-lasting, but the breasts will continue to age and change normally. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and aging that occur after surgery can all affect the appearance of the breasts.
