The Importance of Sun Protection

We all love the feeling of the warm sun shining down on our body; we sometimes even crave it after a long winter or being stuck inside an office all day. We like to think that sunshine does a body good, but does it really? Without proper protection, the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can be extremely harmful to the skin.

At Iconic Plastic Surgery, we offer multiple ways to replenish the skin after it’s had too much sun. Laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and even skin care products are all available options to treat sun-damaged skin.

Too Much Sun

If you are in the sun too much without the proper protection, then you are at risk of getting skin cancer, which could be fatal. You are also doing a disservice to your young, healthy skin if too many harmful rays are hitting your skin without sunscreen. It is imperative that you always cover up while outside and use sunscreen on your face and other parts of your body every day.

How Can I Treat & Protect My Face?

Treating your sun-damaged skin can be done a few different ways. Consulting with Dr. D’Souza about the treatment plan that is right for you is highly encouraged, as some plans are more tedious and intense than others.

Laser Resurfacing

A fractional CO2 laser is used during this nonsurgical procedure to treat dark spots, aging lines, acne, and scars. The skin is heated, which causes a tightening effect on the skin to produce more collagen, resulting in fewer lines and wrinkles. Downtime and recovery are pretty significant for this procedure, so laser resurfacing may not be the treatment for everyone.

Chemical Peels

There are different types of chemical peels to choose from at Iconic Plastic Surgery. These peels contain different agents, including alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, salicylic, glycolic, lactic, malic, retinoic, and/or trichloroacetic acids. All of these agents are designed to cleanse, refresh, and replenish the skin. Each peel has different strengths and compositions, so the downtime and recovery time may vary, depending on the type of peel you choose.

Skin Care Options

Taking care of your skin is so important. It may be hard to decide what skin care line to go with because there are so many options available, from drug store brands to high-end products. Eventually, everything starts to seem the same after reading labels as you try to figure out which one is right for you. But Iconic Plastic Surgery has done the research for you, and we only recommend skin care products that are backed by sound scientific research and are effective. ZO® Skin Health is recommended by Iconic Plastic Surgery because of their high-quality active ingredients in the products used to repair damage and restore a youthful appearance.
