Ear surgery, or otoplasty, can be a big deal. It can boost self-confidence, so you don’t have to hide your ears or be embarrassed by them anymore. Ear surgery can alter the size, position, or proportion of the ears, creating a refreshed look for both men and women. It is important that you follow all of Dr. D’Souza’s aftercare instructions properly to ensure that your recovery goes smoothly and your results are the best they can be.
Immediately After Surgery
Your ears will be bandaged after your ear surgery and kept that way for three to four days. After your follow-up appointment, you will be given smaller bandages to assist with the rest of the healing process. Patients can typically return to work, school, or other regular activities after seven to 10 days. Minimal pain may be present, but it can be managed with pain medications prescribed by Dr. D’Souza as needed.
Elevate Your Head
Swelling may be present for up to a few days after your ear surgery. This is completely normal, and it is important that you keep your head elevated to alleviate the swelling and possible discomfort. Propping yourself up with pillows while resting and recovering can be helpful for a smooth and more comfortable recovery.
Stay Cool and Dry
It is important that you stay cool while recovering from otoplasty. Your ears will feel numb for a little bit after the surgery, so you should avoid blow dryers or other very hot or cold things on or around the ears. Protecting the incisions is also imperative to complete healing. Applying any topical ointment to the surgery site should be performed with clean hands to avoid irritation or infection. Taking proper care of the surgery site will help to ensure that your wounds heal quicker and with less-noticeable scarring.
