A curvaceous behind is a highly desired feature, but it can be hard to increase the size of your butt with exercises. Butt augmentation with fat transfer, or the Brazilian Butt Lift, is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world. This surgery not only increases the volume of the buttocks, but it can also slim and sculpt problem areas of excess fat. If you feel that your buttocks are too flat, sagging, or asymmetrical, and also have areas with excess fat that can be used as donor sites, this procedure may be right for you.
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Brazilian butt lift surgery removes fat from problem areas of the body, like the thighs or abdomen, and transfers it to the buttocks. The fat is removed using liposuction, which uses a thin suctioning tube (cannula) to remove fat through small incisions. Liposuction can be performed using local, twilight, or general anesthesia depending on the size and location of the treatment site. Tumescent fluid, which is composed of saline and a local anesthetic, is injected into the fatty tissue to make it easier to remove.
Once the fat has been removed, it is put through a filtration process and spun in a centrifuge to remove impurities and refine the fat, making the cells more likely to survive the transfer process. The refined fat is placed into syringes and then strategically injected into the buttocks.
What Can I Expect After My Procedure?
After your procedure, the area where the liposuction was performed will be sore, swollen, and bruised. You will be asked to wear a compression garment to help minimize swelling and encourage proper healing.
Your buttocks will also be sore, swollen, and bruised, and will be wrapped in a compression garment for a few weeks. You will need to sleep on your stomach for at least the first three days. When you are allowed to sit, you will have to place a pillow under your thighs so that there is no pressure placed on your buttocks. You will need to sit like this for at least eight weeks to help ensure proper healing. Your buttocks will be swollen for several weeks, and it is generally recommended that you do not go shopping for new clothes until it has been at least three months. Once all the residual swelling has dissipated, you will be able to see the final shape of your new butt.
Other Uses for Fat Grafting
Fat transfer can also be performed to add volume to other areas of the body. Facial fat grafting is used to add volume to areas of the face that have lost fat due to age. The process used to harvest and purify the fat is the same, and it is then injected into areas like the cheeks and temples to provide a naturally youthful appearance.
