Facelift surgery is major surgery, and it is important to know a few things before going into the operating room. Here are the top 3 things to consider before undergoing your facelift surgery.
1. Find Out if You’re a Candidate
Finding out if you are a candidate for facelift surgery is the first step in this process. You may think you are a candidate and are ready for surgery just because you have lax skin in your mid face and jawline. However, there may be a few factors that don’t add up. It is important to understand why you want to undergo this surgery in the first place. Making sure that this decision is up to you and not because someone is forcing you into it is very important. Candidates should also be healthy, non-smoking individuals who have realistic expectations.
2. Choose an Experienced Plastic Surgeon
It is crucial that you choose a surgeon based on his or her experience, knowledge, and training rather than the cost of the procedure. Dr. D’Souza is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial aesthetic surgery. He is meticulous in his craft and provides unmatched care and attention to each patient he sees. Dr. D’Souza completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residency training at two premier training programs in the country: the University of Nebraska and the University of California, San Diego. In addition to his residency training, Dr. D’Souza electively chose to further his education and hone in on certain aesthetic skills by completing his aesthetic surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. With his knowledge, experience, and bedside manner, Dr. D’Souza at Iconic Plastic Surgery will take excellent care and provide a great surgical experience.
3. Know What to Expect
During your facelift surgery, you will be in an operating room and given anesthesia to make you as comfortable as possible. The incisions will be placed discreetly in the hairline and behind the ears, and the tissues will be lifted, tightened, and then the incisions will be closed. After your surgery, you can expect swelling and bruising for up to two weeks. Most patients can continue their normal household duties a few days after their surgery, but other, more strenuous, activities should be avoided for a few weeks, until you are cleared by Dr. D’Souza. Typical facelift surgery results can last about five to 10 years with a proper skin care routine.
What if It’s Not for Me?
Facelift surgery may not be for you, and that’s ok! There are plenty of other non-surgical options that can provide you with similar results to facelift surgery. Injectable fillers like BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM®, and Restylane® are great options if you are not a candidate for facelift surgery.
