What is a Chin Augmentation?
A chin augmentation is a surgical procedure able to improve the appearance of the chin with the use of an implant. The procedure can affect the contour of the face and also bring balance to the face by making the chin more proportionate to the rest of the facial features. Augmenting the chin with the use of an implant is a procedure that brings balance to the facial structure.
Why a Chin Augmentation?
A chin augmentation is usually done to balance the appearance of the face by making the chin longer in a horizontal or vertical direction. People generally look into a chin augmentation if they have weak or receding chins. To determine which implant is right for you, Dr. D’Souza will collect specific measurements that take into account the exact proportions of your face.
What can you expect during the procedure?
A chin augmentation is performed in the operating room. The incisions are normally placed under your chin and are hidden in your skin’s natural creases. All incisions will be discussed in detail with you before starting the procedure. To safely provide you with the best results, an anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia during the procedure. Following the inducement of anesthesia, the incision will be made and a pocket of space will be created for the placement of the implant. Overall, the procedure should only take 1-2 hours.
What can you expect after the procedure?
You can expect some swelling and bruising after a chin augmentation. Talking, smiling, and other facial movements may be uncomfortable at first, but will subside over a few days. Mild discomfort can be managed with pain medications. You will usually be able to go back to work within 3 to 5 days after their chin augmentation.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Men and women who are in good health and looking to improve the appearance of the jawline and chin are considered good candidates for a Chin Augmentation.
