Define your abdomen at Iconic Plastic Surgery
What is the Tummy Tuck San Diego?
The abdominoplasty aka ‘tummy tuck’ is a surgical procedure designed to get rid of stubborn belly fat and repair loose or herniated abdominal muscles. Patients experience skin and fat around their abdomen due to a variety of factors. For some, weight fluctuations or age may take its toll on the body. Pregnancy can also cause the breakdown of the abdomen muscles that give a contoured figure. The tummy tuck shapes and tones your abdomen by removing the most stubborn fat on your body and tightening weak muscles.
Why have a Tummy Tuck?
Patients who have achieved weight loss through diet and exercise but just can’t get that perfect result are the best candidates for the Tummy Tuck. The skin can sag and lose elasticity as a result of being stretched for a long period of time, and often fails to shrink back to its former size and shape.
What can you expect during the procedure?
The Tummy Tuck San Diego is performed in the operating room. The incision is hidden in the bikini line between the hips. All incisions will be discussed in detail with you before starting the procedure. To safely provide you with the best results an anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia before the procedure. Following the inducement of anesthesia, the incision will be made and excess tissue will be resected. Dr. D’Souza will tighten your muscles to give you the ideal body contour and all incisions will be precisely closed. Overall the procedure can take anywhere from 1-2 hours. We will leave small drains in the abdominal wall for about a week after the procedure.
What can you expect after the procedure?
The Tummy Tuck is a major procedure and requires moderate recovery time. We will discuss exercise and lifting restrictions at your pre-operative visit. Walking is highly encouraged after the procedure to keep blood circulating for a safe recovery. Most people require approximately 2-4 weeks of recovery time before returning to their normal activities.
How long will the results last?
You will see some results immediately. However, the final results of the Tummy Tuck may take 1 year to fully develop as swelling needs time to subside. Some visible scars may remain, but the overall results will be long lasting provided that general fitness and nutritional care are maintained.
Am I a Good Candidate?
You are a good candidate for the Tummy Tuck if:
- You have no major health problems
- You have realistic expectations
- You don’t smoke
