Lift your body into shape at Iconic Plastic Surgery
What is a Body Lift?
A Body Lift is a surgical procedure that improves the body’s shape and tone by removing excess skin and underlying fat. This procedure is perfect for treating excess skin, cellulite, and fatty tissues and is the procedure of choice for patients who have undergone a significant amount of weight loss. The circumferential body lift addresses excess fat in the anterior/posterior abdomen, buttock and the lateral flanks.
Why have a Body Lift?
Patients who have achieved significant weight loss through diet, exercise or gastric bypass are often left with loose folds of skin around the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. The skin can sag and lose elasticity as a result of being stretched for a long period of time, and often fails to shrink back to its former size and shape. The Body Lift addresses this excess skin and fat leaving a more defined figure.
What can you expect during the procedure?
The Body Lift is performed in the operating room. The incision length depends on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed. All incisions will be discussed in detail with you before starting the procedure. To safely provide you with the best results, an anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia during the procedure. Following the inducement of anesthesia, the incision will be made and excess tissue will be resected. All incisions will be closed and the underlying tissues will be used as support for a newly shaped body contour. Overall, the procedure can take anywhere from 4-8 hours. Depending on various factors, some patients may require an overnight hospital stay. We will leave small drains in the abdominal wall for about a week after the procedure.
What can you expect after a Body Lift procedure?
The Body Lift is a major procedure and requires significant recovery time. We will discuss exercise and lifting restrictions at your pre-operative visit. Walking is highly encouraged after the procedure to keep blood circulating for a safe recovery. Most people require approximately 4 to 6 weeks of recovery time before returning to their normal activities and it is recommended to wait 6 to 8 weeks before exercising.
How long will the results last?
You will see some results immediately. However, the final result of a Body Lift may take 1 year or more to fully develop as swelling needs time to subside. Some visible scars may remain, but the overall results will be long lasting provided that general fitness and nutritional care are maintained.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Patients who have undergone a major weight loss transformation are the most ideal candidates for a Body Lift. However, performing a Body Lift is a complex procedure, so you must meet certain criteria to be eligible.
- Have a stable ideal weight
- Have good overall health to be able to go under general anesthesia
